Non-Magnetic Solid Body in Ferrofluid Containers: Wall Effects

چکیده
Abstract Experimental and numerical investigations of a magnetic ponderomotive force acting on non-magnetic body immersed in ferrofluid were carried out. The study was performed nonmagnetic sphere cylindrical container filled with the fluid magnetized by uniform field. symmetry experimental setup allowed simplification problem: 2D axisymmetric simulation corresponded to 1D measurements. turned out be non-monotonic: it has two extrema one or three zero values depending geometrical parameters magnitude applied field intensity. It shown that wall effects are crucial for this problem, because vicinity container’s bottom (or top) may change its sign (direction). This behaviour can described only framework inductive approach, which takes into account all demagnetizing fields generated container. On contrary, simplified non-inductive approach is unable explain behaviour, especially effects.

Confined ferrofluid droplet in crossed magnetic fields.
When a ferrofluid drop is trapped in a horizontal Hele-Shaw cell and subjected to a vertical magnetic field, a fingering instability results in the droplet evolving into a complex branched structure. This fingering instability depends on the magnetic field ramp rate but also depends critically on the initial state of the droplet. Small perturbations in the initial droplet can have a large influ...
متن کاملMagnetic studies of ferrofluid-modified spruce sawdust
Spruce sawdust (lignocellulose material) was magnetically modified after contact with a water-based magnetic fluid containing maghemite nanoparticles. This procedure allows one to use the prepared material as a new magnetic affinity adsorbent in magnetic separation techniques. The magnetic sawdust was investigated by means of electron spin resonance spectroscopy and conventional magnetic method...
متن کاملNon-uniformity of Clinical Head, Head and Neck, and Body Coils in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Introduction Signal intensity uniformity in a magnetic resonance (MR) image indicates how well the MR imaging (MRI) system represents an object. One of the major sources of image non-uniformity in high-field MRI scanners is inhomogeneity of radio-frequency coil. The aim of this study was to investigate non-uniformity in head, head and neck, and body coils and compare the obtained results to det...
متن کاملMagnetic action on convection and heat transfer in ferrofluid
The interplay of buoyancy and thermo-magnetic convection mechanisms are investigated in a horizontal ferrofluid layer heated from one wide side and cooled from another in the presence of external uniform transversal magnetic field. The influence of gravitational settling of magnetic particles and their aggregates on heat transfer and convection instability is also considered. The ferro-colloids...
متن کاملTorque measurements on ferrofluid cylinders in rotating magnetic fields
We study the response of magnetic nanoparticle suspensions (ferrofluids) to uniform rotating magnetic fields generated by a two-pole three-phase magnetic induction motor stator winding. Measurements of the torque required to rotate a polycarbonate spindle submerged in ferrofluid subjected to co-rotating and counter-rotating fields yield experimental observations of negative magnetoviscosity in ...
